When it comes to skincare, it can be quite daunting, especially if you're new to this world of beauty. You might of heard of the Korean 10-Step Skincare routine, but is it essential? What was once just a trend, has now become a lifestyle that beauty gurus around the world adopted.
Korean skincare products are often derived from natural and herbal remedies, making it suitable for most skin types. Treating and caring for your skin as part of your physical health is not just grounded in Korea's culture, but is heavily backed by decades of scientific advancements.
It's more than just having a lot of products on your vanity table, it's about having the right amount of products that target specific skin concerns, and using them in the correct order... Let's explore this!
Step 1: Oil Cleanser
Oil cleansers are the base of Korean Skincare Routine, and is the first step to double cleansing. It helps to remove make-up and oil based impurities such as sebum, SPF and pollution.
Step 2: Water Based Cleanser
The second step to double cleansing. Water based cleaners help to dissolve water-based impurities such as sweat and dirt that your oil cleanser didn't pick up. Although simple, double cleansing works wonders to improve overall skin complexion.
Step 3: Exfoliator
This step can be done 1-2 times a week depending on your skin type and concerns. A physical and chemical exfoliation can help to clean out pores, remove dead skin cells and promote brighter and smoother skin!
Step 4: Toner
The ultimate prep product that reintroduces moisture back into the skin are cleansing! It helps to introduce other heavier products more effectively, whilst also repairing your skin's barrier.
Step 5: Essence
To aid cell turnover and hydrate the skin, essences are used. They're often formulated with rich ingredients for anti-ageing purposes and enhances overall complexion.
Step 6: Serums
Whilst this step is optional, introducing boosters, serums and ampoules into your skincare routine can help fight specific skin problems with a concentrate. Whether you're battling Acne, Dryness, Oil Control or Premature Ageing Skin, we've got you covered.
Step 7: Eye Care
The skin around the eyes are the thinnest and most delicate on your face. Using an intensive eye cream can help reduce puffiness, redness and dark circles.
Step 8: Masks
If Essences are the heart of the Korean Skincare Routine, them Masks are the soul. The prolong use of a sheet mask or a clay mask allows the skin to fully absorb the nutrients and moisture, improving the skin's texture and health.
Step 9: Moisturiser
To seal in the moisture and to plump the skin, a moisturiser is used! They come in all sorts of forms: gel, creams, lotions etc. and they all help to smooth fine lines and hydrate the skin.
Step 10: Sunscreen
Last but definitely not least, sun protection. You should always wear sunscreen during the day, even if you do not plan on leaving your home. It's the easiest and most effective way to prevent premature ageing (and skin cancer!).
